The best way to stop smoking

Research to find the most effective way to stop smoking was carried out by the University of Iowa, combining the results of more than 600 studies covering almost 72,000 people from across America and Europe. The conclusion was that hypnosis is the most effective technique. This is supported by the findings of both Which and New Scientist magazines.
Giving up is tough
Lesley Jefferson, clinical hypnotherapist with The Oxford Practice in Malmesbury, who is also trained as an NHS Stop Smoking Advisor says:
“There’s no doubt that giving up is tough - many people try and fail. The nicotine addiction is over in a matter of days, but the habit of years is a hard one to eradicate. Even for those who succeed, relapse is common.
That’s in spite of the clear and undeniable health risks – and we all know now that passive smoking is also a killer. Exposure to second-hand smoke at work is estimated to cause the death of more than two employed persons per working day across the UK. Another study found that in households where both parents smoke, young children have a 72 per cent increased risk of respiratory illnesses.
But hypnotherapy has an outstanding record of success in beating this challenge. It can be safely combined with other NHS treatments such Nicotine Replacement Therapy and Zyban. Many smokers find that after only a single session of hypnotherapy, they are completely free from this debilitating addiction. And believe it or not - the benefits to health start from within 20 minutes of you putting out your last cigarette!
How hypnosis helps
Smokers become addicted because their subconscious has learned to associate smoking with pleasure and tension relief. These associations are very powerful, and cannot be broken even by the conscious mind, which understands the health risks. Hypnotherapy breaks these associations and helps the subconscious to change its beliefs about smoking. This makes it easier to stop, and to stay stopped, without the cravings, mood swings and the weight gain that can otherwise result in relapse.
