Chiropody / Foot Health Care

Chiropody / Foot Health CareWhat is Chiropody/Foot Health Care?

Your feet are one of the most active parts of your body. They go everywhere with you and help you take part in every activity from shopping to sport.

When your feet look abd feel like they need some attention, proper foot care from a qualified, professional chiropodist or Foot Health Practitioner is essential.

Chiropodists (also known as podiatrists) and Foot Health Practitioners treat a wide variety of abnormalities and conditions of the foot and lower limb, from verrucas and ingrown toenails, to arthritis.

Who can benefit from Foot Health Care?

Chiropodists and Foot Health Practitioners work with people of all ages, but also play an important role in helping older people, and disabled people, to stay mobile and independent.

Diabetics are encouraged to see a Chiropodist or Foot Health Practitioner on a regular basis as their condition can cause serious problems in the feet and their overall body health.

Here are some other common problems, which can be treated by a chiropodist:

  • Cutting and filing toenails
  • Cutting or filing hard skin
  • Treatment for corns
  • Verruca Treatment
  • Orthotics
  • Strapping and padding

I am a qualified Foot Health Practitioner. I qualified with the SMAE Institute in Maidenhead Berkshire in May 2008.

The SMAE Institute was founded in 1919, and has therefore, nearly 90 years experience in training foot health practitioners. The course is accredited by the Anglia Ruskin University.

Students of the Smae are extensively trained in both the theoretical and practical aspects of Foot Health. Indeed the institute treats over 14000 patients per year.

Considerable emphasis is placed on patient care, aeseptic techniques and medical history, together with surgical and medical procedures to ensure that the patient receives the best possible treatment for their feet.

The letters MCFHP after my name indicate that I am a Member of the Open College of Foot Health Professionals having undertaken extensive training and a searching examination.

The letters MAFHP denote that I am a Member of the Association of Foot Health Practitioners. Every year I will update my knowledge by attending CPD (Continuing Professional Development) workshops and seminars.
